Sikkim in 5 Days: Gangtok, Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar & Yumthang
1 October 2026 By Exporio Holidays Travel Desk
Sikkim packs snow lakes, rhododendron valleys and monasteries into a small state, and five days is enough for the highlights if you plan North Sikkim well.
The classic 5-day route
- Day 1: arrive at NJP or Bagdogra and drive 5–6 hours to Gangtok. Evening on MG Road.
- Day 2: drive to Lachen in North Sikkim, stopping at Seven Sisters and Naga waterfalls.
- Day 3: early start to Gurudongmar Lake (about 17,800 ft), then on to Lachung.
- Day 4: Yumthang Valley, the "Valley of Flowers", and back to Gangtok. Zero Point is optional at extra cost.
- Day 5: drive back to NJP or Bagdogra.
Which package to pick
- Gangtok Tour Package 5 Days 4 Nights with North Sikkim 3D2N: the budget pick at around ₹5,650.
- Gangtok 5 Days 4 Nights with North Sikkim 2D1N & East Sikkim: adds East Sikkim and a city tour.
- Gangtok & Darjeeling 7 Days 6 Nights: adds Nathula Pass, Changu Lake and Darjeeling if you have a week.
Permits and practical tips
North Sikkim and Nathula need permits, which we arrange with your ID details before the trip. Gurudongmar and Yumthang can close after heavy snow or landslides; plans then change for safety. Carry warm clothes in every season, because Gurudongmar is cold year-round.
Best time to visit
March to June for flowers in Yumthang and clear lake views; October to December for crisp skies and snow. July to September is monsoon, when roads are slowest.
